Beer represents more than just a consumable liquid; it also represents one of the world’s oldest and most popular beverages. Today’s beer requires advanced technological sophistication and a team of engineers and scientists with the singular goal of creating the perfect brew.
From the Shadows travels to San Francisco, where we are given a personalized tour of the Anchor Steam brewery from founder and brew master Fritz Maytag, exploring the advanced science of beer, from creation to consumption.
Inspired by the visit, From the Shadows returns to Los Angeles and visits the Culver City Brewing Supply Company to learn the requisite supplies necessary to create a great beer. Supplies in hand, we head south to San Diego, where Evan Freiberg, former brew master’s assistant of the Ballast Point Microbrewery, helps us to create our first batch of home brew.
Finally, From the Shadows introduces viewers to the cutting edge of brewing technology, a device called the “Keg-Bot,” a beer dispensing computer that provides each user an electronic tag to monitor consumption and, based on pre-programmed variables such as body weight and time, will automatically determine one’s Blood Alcohol Level, an innovation that’s working not only to help change the way beer is distributed, but to promote responsible consumption of beer as well!
